Have you ever thought about why some animals are pets and some are not? This term we are animal explorers and we will try to answer this question. At the beginning of the term, we met lots of different pets when they visited school. We found out how we should care for a pet and what they need. Does a dog need the same care as a tortoise?
We will also meet different farm animals when we visit a local farm and consider their needs too. After which we will take a walk on the wild side and look at animals from different parts of the world that we would not have as pets or see on a farm.
This term the children’s learning is based around toys. After the excitement of Christmas and lots of new toys, the children have the opportunity to talk about their favourite toys, play with old toys as well as investigate the materials used to make different toys.
The children are bringing in their own teddy bears for our picnic. We will be making sandwiches and Easter nests to eat at our picnic.
The children have started back keen to explore the different areas of the unit. So far the children have played with wind up toys, they have worked together to build marble runs and a train track, they have put on their own puppet shows and they have enjoyed working in a toy shop. The weather has turned quite cold over the last few days, however this hasn't stopped the children from bouncing on the hoppers in the Quad or working together to build their own ball run in the Garden - excellent cooperation and team work!
The children have really enjoyed their first term at school and are now getting ready for the Christmas holiday. Here are a few photographs to show you what they have been doing.
