Music

Music:

We believe that Music is one of the highest forms of creativity and recognise the value of Music as a universal language, which can bind and bring our school community together. Our Music Curriculum inspires our children to develop a love of, and talent for, music. We teach singing across both Key Stages as well as teaching children how to play both tuned and untuned instruments, encouraging creativity, self-confidence and a sense of achievement in performing along the way. As pupils at Scartho Infants’ School and Nursery progress, we ensure that they have opportunities to develop a critical engagement with music. Our pupils are given time to compose, and listen with discrimination to what we believe is the very best in the musical canon.

The aims of our Music curriculum is:

  • To perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.
  • To learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence.
  • To understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
