Computing

Computing:

Computing is an integral part of our everyday life and will play an immeasurable part in our pupils’ futures.  Our computing curriculum provides pupils with the skills, creativity and enthusiasm to live and thrive in a world increasingly dependent on digital technologies. As computing technology underpins today’s modern society it is fundamental that all pupils gain the confidence and ability to develop their skills and understanding in this subject, in order to prepare them when meeting new challenges in our rapidly developing and changing technological world. Computing has links with, for example, mathematics, science and design and technology and offers insights into both natural and artificial systems.

We recognise the importance of a high-quality computing education that equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. The use of IT will enhance and extend pupils’ learning across the whole curriculum while also developing their social skills.

The overarching aim for our Computing curriculum is to ensure pupils:

  • Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representations.

  • Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.

  • Can analyse problems in computational terms and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.

  • Are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.

  • Are responsible, competent, confident and creative uses of information and communication technology.
