Welcome to our Governance Section
Scartho Infants and Nursery School joined Wellspring Academy Trust in September 2024 and is proud to be part of a wider community of schools serving local communities and their interests.
Our governing body has three key roles:
Details of our current governors are set out below. Our governors have a wide range of background, skills and experience which they bring to the governing body and work closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders, who are responsible for the running of the Academy. The Headteacher is accountable to governors for how he does this and frequently reports and consults with governors about this.
Governors meet several times a year to look at all aspects of the life and work of the school. Our Governors are linked with specific aspects of school life, make regular reports to the rest of the governors, and visit the school regularly so that your child may recognise them from school celebrations.
We currently have one vacancy for a Trust-Appointed Governor and welcome interest from the local community for this position. If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a governor with us, please contact our Governance Professional, Melanie Gibbons, on 07729 105871 or by emailing her at m.gibbons@wellspringacademies.org.uk.
Our Chair of Governors is Adam Johnston and he can be contacted via the Governance Professional or by writing to:

Adam Johnston Chair of Governors Trust-appointed governor Term of office 01/09/2024 - 01/09/2028 | Being Grimsby born, I am proud to work and live here and it gives me a real sense of pride to be able to give back to the area that has given to me over the years. I joined the Scartho Infants and Nursery School governors board in Sept 2020 and I moved into the Chair position in Nov 2021. I also serve on the governing body at Stallingborough CofE Primary School since February 2025. I’m thankful for the opportunity here at the school and it is a real pleasure to learn and work alongside the Scartho Infants and Nursery family to support and develop the school and its wonderful children. I live in Scartho myself and am a dad to two beautiful children of 9yrs and 13yrs old, who both continue to develop and flourish through their education journeys. Getting to learn and understand what goes into the school way of life is a privilege, and one that makes me very thankful for the caring, nurturing and talented teams that support our children. We the Governors are a passionate and committed group wanting to make a difference, to the school, staff and our pupils, to ensure all our children get the best start in life and learning opportunities that they can take with them and use through their education journey and lives in the future.

Emily Powell Vice Chair Trust-appointed governor Term of office 01/09/2024 - 01/09/2028 | I am proud to be a part of the Scartho Infants’ School and Nursery family as a governor. I joined in June 2022 and I am really happy to be able to support the school’s wonderful Head Teacher and brilliant staff who all do a fantastic job in enabling your children to play, learn and grow together and reach their full potential. I am passionate about education, being a local Head Teacher myself, and a Mum to my six-year-old daughter who is going through her own education journey. I grew up in Waltham and moved to Scartho 18 years ago so ensuring that our local school continues to thrive and develop, whilst maintaining the lovely family feel that is so evident when you enter the school, is something I am committed to for many years to come.

During my time in education, I have worked within secondary and primary schools, in a range of roles, including my current position of Assistant Principal and SENDCo. As a local lad, (Cleethorpes), I have always loved the area and I consider myself someone who cares about where I live. Having recently moved back to the area after living away with the Royal Air Force (RAF). I wanted to give something back, then Scartho Infants and Nursery School asked for volunteers to become a Governor. I thought this might be the opportunity I have been waiting for, so I applied and was appointed. So, a little about me, I have been in the RAF since 2009, I work as an Aircraft Engineer and in that time I have worked on several different aircraft types, including the Tornado GR4 at RAF Marham in Norfolk. I have travelled quite a lot with the RAF and visited many countries along the way, most extensively the USA, in which I have spent over a year of my life in various locations, including 2, month long, visits to Las Vegas, which as you can imagine, were awful. Since 2017 I have been based a little closer to home (Lincolnshire) and after my son was born in 2018 (Jacob), my wife and I decided we wanted to be closer to family, which led to the decision in 2021 to move back to the Grimsby area. My son Jacob, started Reception here at Scartho Infants and Nursery School in September 2022. I enjoy playing football, tennis and running. We have a Black Cocker Spaniel named Lincoln. And a cat called Rascal.
